The Racquet and Tennis Club of New York 370 Park Avenue New York, NY 10022
The Irish Georgian Society requests the pleasure of your company at the Racquet and Tennis Club of New York for dinner, where we will be joined by former Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland, Simon Coveney.
About the speaker:
Simon Coveney is a former Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) of Ireland and one of the country’s most experienced statesmen. Over a 25-year political career, he served as Minister for Foreign Affairs, Minister for Defence, and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment. A native of Cork, Mr. Coveney was previously a Member of the European Parliament and played a central role in shaping Ireland’s response to Brexit. He is widely respected for his leadership on international affairs and Ireland’s transatlantic and European relationships.
About the talk:
Mr. Coveney will reflect on the significance of the Irish Georgian Society’s restoration of the Old Yacht Club building in Cobh, Co. Cork, formerly the clubhouse of the world’s oldest yacht club, the Royal Cork Yacht Club, and now the home of the Sirius Arts Centre. As a proud yachtsman and Cork native, he will speak to the transformative impact this project has had, not only in preserving an important historic building but in revitalizing cultural life along the harbour, and the vital role played by the Society’s American supporters in this endeavor. He will also look ahead to future preservation efforts across Ireland, and the continued importance of international partnership in safeguarding the island’s historic treasures.
