A Gardener’s Tour of Georgian Ireland

The Irish Georgian Society hosted a special garden tour of Ireland tailored to coincide with the opening of two Garden Exhibitions at the City Assembly House.

This tour included visits to some of the great Irish estates and gardens, including visits to Powerscourt in Co. Wicklow, famous for its beautiful gardens, Charleville House, a neighboring private estate, Birr Castle, the home of the Earl and Countess of Rosse, well known for its famous gardens, Garinish Island whose gardens were designed by Harold Peto, the Derreen Gardens on the neighboring Beara Peninsula and Glin Castle, the home of Madam Olda FitzGerald and the late Desmond FitzGerald, Catherine FitzGerald and their family.

The tour group stayed at some of the finest hotels in the world as well as private estates, including the Merrion Hotel in Dublin, Ballyfin in Co. Laois, Sheen Falls Lodge in Kenmare and Glin Castle in Co.Limerick.
