About the Talk
Randal Antrim (IGS Vice-President since 2025) will discuss the family and architectural history of his ancestral home, Glenarm Castle. Located in the village of Glenarm, Co Antrim, the castle was built by Randal MacDonnell, 1st Earl of Antrim, in 1636 and has remained in the family ever since. Today the castle is home to Randal and Aurora McDonnell, the 15th Earl and Countess of Antrim. Distilling over 400 years of family history, he will reflect on the turbulent events that shaped his ancestors and how he and Aurora have successfully revitalized the estate to bring it into the modern era. Glenarm Castle remains a private family home, but the Castle grounds are open to the public, focussing on a newly restored and award-winning walled garden, which dates from the remodelling of the Castle in the Jacobethan style in the 1820s.
