The Irish Georgian Society requests the pleasure of your company at the Casino Club for dinner, where we will be joined by former Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland, Simon Coveney.
About the speaker:
Simon Coveney is a former Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) of Ireland and one of the country’s most experienced statesmen. Over a 25-year political career, he served as Minister for Foreign Affairs, Minister for Defence, and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment. A native of Cork, Mr. Coveney was previously a Member of the European Parliament and played a central role in shaping Ireland’s response to Brexit. He is widely respected for his leadership on international affairs and Ireland’s transatlantic and European relationships.
About the talk:
Mr. Coveney will reflect on the significance of the Irish Georgian Society’s restoration of the Old Yacht Club building in Cobh, Co. Cork, formerly the clubhouse of the world’s oldest yacht club, the Royal Cork Yacht Club, and now the home of the Sirius Arts Centre. As a proud yachtsman and Cork native, he will speak to the transformative impact this project has had, not only in preserving an important historic building but in revitalizing cultural life along the harbour, and the vital role played by the Society’s American supporters in this endeavor. He will also look ahead to future preservation efforts across Ireland, and the continued importance of international partnership in safeguarding the island’s historic treasures.

Lady Burlington will speak about her new book, Lismore Castle: Food and Flowers from a Historic Irish Garden, which offers an intimate portrait of life at Lismore Castle through the lens of its gardens, kitchens, and changing seasons. Blending personal reflections with recipes, floral arrangements, and historical insights, the book celebrates the beauty and vitality of one of Ireland’s most storied estates. In her talk, Laura will explore the creative and cultural inspirations behind the book and the living heritage it seeks to share.
About the author:
Laura Cavendish, Countess of Burlington, is a writer, editor, and passionate advocate for the arts, gardens, and historic preservation. She is the author of Lismore Castle: Food and Flowers from a Historic Irish Garden, a beautifully illustrated new book that celebrates the seasonal rhythms, recipes, and horticultural heritage of her family’s ancestral home in County Waterford. A contributing editor at Vogue, Lady Burlington has also served as a trustee of the Royal Academy of Arts and she and her husband, William, are now responsible for Chatsworth Estate. Laura brings a unique perspective on the interplay between tradition and contemporary culture.
